(word)plays - an evening of locally crafted one act plays

In the fall of 2015 Theatre; Just Because partnered with the Suncor Energy Centre for the Performing Arts for our first Play Production Series. Our goal was to nurture directors, actors, stage managers, and designers in an accessible, comfortable, and creative environment while removing obstacles that can typically stand in the way of independent theatre creation.

With learning opportunities from group workshops and mentorships with the Theatre; Just Because artistic team, each production was lead by a first time director with full creative control and the casts were mixed with actors of varying experiences and ages.

The resulting plays were showcased on March 18, 2016 at SECPA during (word)plays - an evening of locally crafted one act plays, a festival-style event where these works were performed for the first time.

Three of the four plays were entered in the annual Alberta Drama Festival Association Regional One Act Play Festival, held on May 2, 2016 at the Keyano Recital Theatre.
